Qomarul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School integrates the formal and non-formal education systems. While the formal system implements the curriculum of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture, the non-formal system uses a local curriculum that consists of classic and contemporary Islamic teaching books.

The Islamic Boarding School was initially developed from an old mosque built in the early 1900s in the village of Gondang, Trenggalek District, East Java, Indonesia.

Presently, around 1500 students are pursuing their education at the Islamic Boarding School most of whom come from underprivileged families.

The education units under management of the Boarding School comprise as follows:

Kindergarten or Raudlatul Athfal

Raudlatul Athfal of Qomarul Hidayah, established as  part of the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah on 1 January 1964, provides a place for children to play and learn. The objective of the school is to prepare children to enter elementary school.

Islamic Elementary School or Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

Madrasah Ibtidaiyah of Qomarul Hidayah, founded  on 1 January 1964, is the first formal education school established by the Boarding School Foundation. The school begins with first grade and goes through sixth grade. It integrates local curriculum with the national curriculum introduced by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Islamic Junior High School / Middle School or Madrasah Tsanawiyah

Madrasah Tsanawiyah of Qomarul Hidayah is a middle school that begins with seventh grade and goes through ninth grade. The school integrates local curriculum with the national curriculum introduced by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture and has been granted the highest accreditation level (“A” level) by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Islamic Senior High School or Madrasah Aliyah

Madrasah Aliyah of Qomarul Hidayah is a formal education institution with specialization in social science. Constituting tenth to twelfth grade, it is a level higher from the middle school. It integrates local curriculum with the national curriculum introduced by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Vocational High School

Qomarul Hidayah Vocational High School (tenth to twelfth grade) has two specializations, namely automotive engineering and computer and network engineering. The school implements the national curriculum of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.

Islamic School or Madrasah Tarbiyatul Mu’allimin wal Mua’allimat

Madrasah Tarbiyatul Mu’allimin wal Mu’allimat, established in early 1960s, is a non-formal school that has a specialty in religious knowledge. Along its seven levels, it offers the study of Nahwu, Sharaf, Tajwid, Tauhid, Tafsir, and Hadis. The school adopts local curriculum (combination of the classic and contemporary Islamic textbooks). The teaching and learning takes place in the afternoon, and welcomes elementary to high school students who intend to get more profound Islamic knowledge.

Qur’an Memorization Program or Tahfidzil Qur’an

Tahfizh program intends to lead the students in memorizing the Holy Qur’an. Furthermore, it aims to broaden students’ knowledge and to instill good behavior based on the Qur’anic moral teachings. Currently the Tahfidz’s students are mainly girls.

Qur’anic Education for Kindergarten or Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an

The Qur’anic Education for Kindergarten of Qomarul Hidayah is a Qur’an education institution for children. The teaching and learning takes place in the afternoon. The Qur’anic School aims to bringing students to: be able to recite Qur’an fluently; be freed from the illiteracy of Arabic reading and writing; be able to pray well and correctly, and have good behavior and morals
